Master the basic foiling position

The basic foiling position is a crucial element.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to perfect your skills, mastering this position is the key to a successful and safe session on the water.

1. Positioning your feet

Place your feet evenly on the board, with the front foot slightly forward and the back foot perpendicular. The distance between your feet should be about the width of your shoulders.

Make sure your back foot is well above the foil for optimum control.

2. Hand position

Hold the wing firmly but without tension. The front hand should be placed on the boom or front handle of the kite, while the rear hand controls the power by being positioned on the rear handle.

Keep your arms slightly bent to absorb the kite's movements and remain flexible.

3. Body posture

Bend your knees slightly to lower your centre of gravity, which will give you more stability.

Keep your back straight and your gaze forward to anticipate the movements of the water and the kite.

Your weight should be evenly distributed between both feet to maintain good balance.

To make progress

Practise regularly: As with any discipline, consistency is key. The more time you spend on the water, the more comfortable you'll feel in the basic position.

Pay attention to the wind conditions: Moderate wind conditions are ideal for training. A wind that is too strong or too light can make learning more difficult.

Watch and learn: Take part in courses or group sessions. Learning by observing and sharing with others can greatly accelerate your progress.

By following this advice and practising regularly, you'll gain in confidence and efficiency on the water.
